EnquireAbout this property
Villa Cala Nova is a house for living in rather than looking at. Completed in 2022 on the east coast of Ibiza, a few minutes' walk from the sandy beach at Cala Nova and close to the village of Es Canar, it is designed around the rhythms of a family summer — mornings on the terrace, afternoons by the pool, evenings cooking outdoors.
The setting
This stretch of coast is greener and gentler than the south of the island, with pine woods running down to sandy bays. From the upper floor, the view passes over the treetops to a glimpse of turquoise sea. Santa Eulària, with its marina and year-round restaurants, is a short drive away.
The house
The architecture is simple and well made: two volumes of honey-coloured sandstone and white render set at right angles, sheltering the garden from the wind, with flat roofs and deep terraces shaded by timber pergolas. Inside, oak floors, linen curtains and walls of local stone give the rooms warmth, while large sliding windows keep the house open to the garden for most of the year.
Living spaces
The living room, kitchen and dining area form one generous space. A long linen sofa and rope-backed chairs face the pool terrace, and the kitchen is built around a pale terrazzo island with rattan pendants above it and a walk-in pantry behind. A long oak table with canvas chairs seats the whole family. Glass doors open directly onto a covered terrace, where an outdoor kitchen sits under the pergola beside the lawn.
Bedrooms
The principal bedroom is on the ground floor, with a bathroom that opens to a small walled sandstone patio. Upstairs, three further bedrooms share a terrace with views over the treetops to the sea. A study off the landing makes it easy to work from the island, and every bedroom has its own bathroom.
The bedrooms follow the same relaxed palette as the rest of the house: white linen, pale oak, woven headboards and soft blue accents. Sliding shutters and linen curtains filter the morning light, and windows on two sides allow a sea breeze to pass through the upstairs rooms on warm nights, so the house stays comfortable without relying entirely on air conditioning.
Outdoors
The garden, of just over one and a half thousand square metres, is planted with young olive trees, bougainvillea and a broad lawn, with a heated pool at its centre. The covered outdoor kitchen, with a dining table for ten, is the heart of the house through the summer, and the pergolas keep the terraces comfortable in the heat of the day.
Because the two wings of the house wrap around the garden, the lawn and pool are sheltered from the wind and can be seen from the kitchen and living room — a practical arrangement for families with young children. Stone paths lead from the terraces to a gate towards the lane, and from there the beach is a short, shaded walk through the pines.
Practical details
The house is fully air-conditioned and managed through a straightforward home automation system. The beach at Cala Nova and the village of Es Canar are within walking distance, and the Saturday market at Las Dalias and the beaches of the north-east coast are close by.
